Hi, I'm Jo.
I’m the founder of She Dishes, LLC, a virtual nutrition coaching and consulting practice now based in San Diego, California.
As a registered dietitian nutritionist, I have extensive training and experience guiding individuals in achieving nutrition-related goals and improving their relationship with food and eating.
After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Psychology from Skidmore College, I earned an MS in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University (NYU). At NYU, I also completed my dietetic internship which required rigorous training in medical nutrition therapy and clinical rotations at New York City’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. My first job was clinical dietitian at New York Methodist Hospital, where I counseled women before and during pregnancy on weight management and using diet to control pregnancy-related conditions such as gestational diabetes. This experience sparked my interest in women’s health, from preconception through post-pregnancy and beyond.
A few years ago, I made the move from New York City to San Francisco to become involved in the technology space. I worked with a company that pairs clients seeking nutrition counseling with registered dietitian nutritionists, via an app. While I liked having a greater reach and working with dozens of clients at a time, I missed more in-depth, higher-touch coaching. I am now based in San Diego, and with She Dishes, I love working with people one-on-one, to help them make sustainable habit changes one small step at a time while remembering to enjoy food and eating along the way.
I’m an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, along with several Dietetics Practice Groups of AND including Women’s Health, Weight Management, Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition, and Nutrition Entrepreneurs.
When I’m not working, I love food shopping, cooking, traveling, riding horses, and long walks with my dogs, Winston and Nikki.
She Dishes believes in the importance of eating delicious foods you truly enjoy. I understand that to make lasting changes, where you are right now is where you need to begin. I’ll help you achieve your objectives through gradual, specific, maintainable behavior changes that become lifetime habits.
Approachable, down-to-earth and realistic. I believe in creating a nurturing, collaborative environment where you can truly succeed. I stay up-to-date on the latest evidence-based nutrition research and translate that information into practical tips that you can use every day.
